John R. Jakobson was an American financier. He is widely known for being the father of Maggie Wheeler and Marina Squerciati, an American actress who currently appears as a regular in Chicago P.D. as Officer Kim Burgess.

JAKOBSON— John R., 86, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 in New York City due to . He was the youngest of three children born on May 27, 1930 in New York City to Louis and Lucille (Rafelson) Jakobson.

Stuyvesant High School valedictorian, he went on to Wesleyan University, graduating with honors and distinction in 1952, and Harvard Business School two years later.

He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Wesleyan University, where he served on the board of trustees for many years, in 1989. John pursued a career on Wall Street, joining the New York Stock Exchange as one of its youngest members in 1955.

After leaving the Exchange floor, John maintained his own trading desk at several firms, including Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co in New York City, where he died. All who knew John will miss his wit, wisdom, and expansive spirit. He is survived by his wife, Joan Caraganis Jakobson; son Nicholas Jakobson and fiancee Kathryn Fortunato, as well as daughter Caitlin Rea Tashjian; Jenna Torres and Maggie Wheeler (Daniel) from his first marriage to Barbara Jakobson; and grandchildren Ama, Juno, Gemma, Lily, and Jack.

Helen Mintz, his sister, survives him. His son John Paul “Pablo” Jakobson and brother Peter Jakobson predeceased him. A memorial service is being planned for family and close friends. The family requests that any donations be made to Wesleyan University, where a John Jakobson Scholarship Fund has been established, in lieu of flowers.
